Would it be a problem to pay for the lessons, then Jeugdcultuurfonds (Youth culture foundation) offers the possibility to pay 20 lessons of an hour a year. A teacher, a social worker or doctor can do an application on the website www.allekinderendoenmee.nl (all children join in) After three weeks you can start then! You can find more explanation on the website from Jeugdcultuurfonds www.jeugdcultuurfonds.nl and click on the top bar to Utrecht or another town, where you live.

Marthe makes photos and videos from the lessons, which we send the parents via mail and for the children it is also nice to see themselves back.

Leonoor developed a method to learn to read notes with coloured notes. Jeannette draws the notes with coloured pencil and makes foldable plasticized booklets of it, see als our page
sheet music and teaching materials (Dutch) and music basics.
The children learn to read notes with these booklets. In every song the same tone has the same colour. Per song the colors are still different, so that children do not read colours, but notes.

We also play now and then something on our viola da gamba's, lutes and bamboo flutes of one tone. Photos from our instruments you can see at the page
instruments.

Serena

After 6 lessons at Taalschool (language school) Serena went on with music lessons at our house. She made a beautiful song about the spring:

De bijen zijn terug,
de vogels vliegen vlug.
De koeien loeien in de wei,
daarom ben ik blij.

translation

the birds are flying quickly.
The cows are mooing in the meadow,
that's why I am happy.

Janne made a song herself. First she thought of the words, after it she tapped the rhythm with bamboo sticks and wrote it down. She started the words with the rhythm. Leonoor played those tones on the viola da gamba. Janne drew the song. We played the song with each other on the one tone bamboo flutes. Leonoor made a 5-part arrangement of her song and an arrangement for the lute.

photo from a drawing of the song that Janne made These are the words of the song from Janne:
Ik wil graag een liedje maken,
want dat vind ik leuk.
Met heel veel noten,
want dan is het liedje leuk.

translation
I would like to make a song,
because I find it nice.
With very many notes,
because then the song is nice.

Janne drew the notes of Mr. Dowland's midnight, a melody from John Dowland, who wrote much for the lute, on which Leonoor made a text about how you can play lute:

Spelen kan je op de luit. Vind je het een mooi geluid?
Luister maar naar wat je doet. Hoor de tonen, klinken ze al goed?
Zacht en heel helder klinkt het geluid, zoek die klanken op de luit.
Met de duim speel je steeds de eerste tel, met de wijsvinger weer terug,
speel je als je oefent later ook vlug.

translation
You can play on the lute. Do you think the sound is beautiful?
Listen to what you do. Hear the tones, do they already sound well?
The sound is soft and very clear, search those sounds on the lute.
With the thumb you still play the first beat,
with the forefinger back again,
you also play quickly later on when you practice.

Fenna

Fenna made a song herself. Wiebe, an acquaintance of us who is a cabinet maker, made a rebec during a course instrument building. The rebec is a small bowed instrument from the middle ages with three strings. We are allowed to borrow the rebec from Wiebe and Fenna likes it very much to play on it.

Op de rebec spelen vind ik leuk.
Nu speel ik mijn eigen liedje,
en dat vind ik leuk.

translation
I like to play on the rebec.
Now I play my own song,
and I like it.

We were at Rosa's place an afternoon, on the houseboat, where there is a piano. Leonoor played songs together on the piano with Rosa, Janne, Fenna and Sanne. The nice thing of the piano is that you can play on it with four children (adults also like it) at the same time. photo from Sanne, Fenna, Janne and Rosa on the piano

With the children in the lessons we are especially engaged with listening to each other, concentration, rest, patience, communication, cooperating and playing together. By being involved with each other, we learn from each other and we help each other to get further. We gave music lessons at Taalschool (language school) het Mozaïek to children from different countries, who speak a little Dutch. Music is an universal language, it is very nice to see how children enjoy the music lesson.

Mirko, Melianna and Matteo
With the one tone flutes of bamboo, learn children to play together. Everybody gets one of more flutes of one tone, like this we play simple songs with each other, sometimes with bass notes under it. The children learn to count and tap rhythms with bamboo sticks.
